MBA - Accounting Focus - 1 Year Option

Union Graduate College is pleased to announce the new MBA – Accounting focus program. The program enables students who majored in Accounting at the undergraduate level to complete the additional 30 credit hours required to meet the 150 credit hours needed to sit for the CPA exam while earning an MBA degree.

Most undergraduate Accounting majors will be eligible to waive core MBA courses such as Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Corporate Finance, Business Law, and Economics. By waiving these core MBA courses, students reduce the total number of courses needed to complete the degree. Students may waive up to eight core courses which reduces the total number of courses needed for the MBA from 20 courses down to 12 courses (36 credits). The student earns an MBA with only two courses more than is required by most MS in Accounting programs (which is typically 10 courses).

The MBA – Accounting focus program can be completed in one-year.

Assuming that all 8 courses are waived, a typical one-year schedule to complete the MBA – Accounting focus would be as follows:

Summer
Terms I and II
Fall

Spring

MBA 506. Statistical Models for Management Advanced Auditing and Research Advanced Management Accounting Contemporary Issues in Financial Accounting
MBA 545. Strategic Use of Information Technology MBA 500. Managing Ethically in a Global Environment Elective MBA 681. Strategic Management and Leadership
MBA 531. Operations Management Elective Elective

Students who waive fewer than eight courses may also be able to finish the MBA in one year. The program requires a 400 hour internship - virtually all internships are paid positions. Students work with a full-time Internship Coordinator and Dean Lewis to secure an appropriate internship position.
